The
IJssel Line Foundation gives guided tours led by
knowledgeable guides. Since the entire area covered
by Plan-D of the IJssel Line is quite large and the
various elements are widely spread, we offer
several tour choices:
Guided tour 1
We tell about the history of the IJssel Line, followed by a guided tour through the hospital and command bunkers. The route goes partly through a wooded area. *
The tour takes 1 hour and is on foot.
Guided tour 2
We tell about the history of the IJssel Line, followed by a guided tour through the hospital and command bunkers and a visit to the water intake works in the IJssel dike. The route goes partly through a wooded area. *
The tour takes 1 ½ hours and is on foot.
Guided tour 3
We tell about the history of the IJssel Line, followed by a guided tour through the hospital and command bunkers and a visit to the water intake works in the IJssel dike. The route goes partly through a wooded area. *
This portion is on foot.
Thereafter we visit some gun emplacements in the surrounding area and the defense area on the banks of the IJssel River. The gun emplacements in the surrounding area can only be entered through steep ladders embedded in a wall.
This guided tour lasts 3 hours.
For this part of the tour, you need to have your own transportation (bike or car).
*) Due to the narrow passageways in the command bunker, it is unfortunately not possible to maneuver a wheelchair.
