This
type of water intake works, together with other
facilities, was intended to flood (inundate) land
inside the dikes. Each section had a gate shaped
like a quarter of a cylinder mounted on a
horizontal axel which could be moved to a closed or
open position, thereby allowing a controlled flow
of water to reach the desired depth of flooding.
There were in total 7 of these intakes built,
varying in width from 2 to 12 openings.
“Our” intake works consists of 5 such openings and is + 32 meters wide.
